website update: added a lite version for browsers that cannot handle CSS properly

Jan 6, 2026, Tuesday

happy new year!!

i've been playing around with a few lightweight web browsers for a while, and it made me realize how *certain* websites love to shove unnecessary CSS and Javascript EVERYWHERE.

i'm currently trying to daily drive Dillo; it's a cross-platform web browser that uses its own web engine, and the UI uses FLTK. it's a lovely little browser that does its job pretty well.

it can handle basic CSS and doesn't support Javascript. which poses a challenge in browsing modern web, and it's something that has been pissing me off a lot lately.

some basic websites work like wayback classic, rural dictionary, fossphones etc. work pretty well! others like wikipedia did load but didn't render properly, so i had to use a wikiless front-end to use the search and read functionality. i'm aware that i can just edit the URL, but i'd much rather have a non-broken UI in front of me :)

inevitably, i got a TON of errors trying to navigate through more complex and modern websites like social media, news, even SEARCH ENGINES of all the things; but what was the most disappointing for me was the internet archive. for some reason the website asks me to enable javascript to even use the search functionality?!

despise all of this, i really enjoy using browsers like dillo; it's lightweight, it's small, it's BS-free and it's CUTE!! even though it looks "dated" considering today's standards, honestly that's what i love about this browser.

and honestly? it inspired me to create a lite version of this website as well!! it's VERY barebones; there's no CSS nor Javascript in it, it's purely HTML. i even considered going "screw HTML" and actually making everything plain text, but...maybe another time ;3

anyway welcome to the lite version of my journey!
